Welcome  to the Sherwood Park  Curling Club website. Our club offers a variety of  leagues - ladies, men's,  mixed, seniors, adult learn to curl and junior program. The Sherwood Park  Curling Club continues to grow and offers a  variety of services to both new and  returning members. Our facility has  eight sheets of ice, lounge, concession, and  more. New members are always  welcome.

Why curling?

I can provide a few reasons to take up curling and a few more on why our members enjoy it so much:

Curling transcends age; we have curlers from 9 – 90 years of age curling at our club

It’s easy to learn the basics most beginners can throw and sweep their way to the house in as little as 2 – 3 exposure's.

From the moment you step on the ice until you shake hands at the end of the game you are throwing, sweeping and watching for changes in ice conditions, you are otherwise engaged throughout the game

Curling is great exercise and more importantly it’s safe

Curling is very cost friendly, normally the cost is less than $10 per hour to play.

We have yet to mention the camaraderie or social impact curling has on its members and you should know curling is unsurpassed when it comes time to socialization before, after and beyond the rink. Curlers make friends for life.

Can you think of a better time to give curling a try? Neither can we... Signing up is as easy as 1-2-3, simply complete the registration form below and we will take care of the rest.

SPCC Welcomes Heather Nedohin

With all the rocks thrown and the lights turned off on another great year at the Sherwood Park Curling Club, we take this time to bid farewell to Dan Girard. Dan has been the business manager for many years and has been instrumental in forming the club into what we know today as the SPCC. Thank you Dan for the time and attention you have given the club during your tenure as manager.

When we walk back into the club next fall we will walk through new doors as Glen Allen Recreation Center is in the midst of a facelift. Behind those doors will be a new face, but a familiar face.  Heather Nedohin has accepted the position of Business Manager and will be there to welcome us back. Along with her years of curling expertise she also has degree in Phys Ed and experience as a Recreation Consultant at Grant MacEwan. Welcome to the SPCC Heather! We are excited to see what this new chapter brings.

CCA Story

Business of Curling: Keeping members happy at Sherwood Park CC

There is no magic pill, only hard work,” says Dan Girard, manager of Alberta’s Sherwood Park Curling Club, about the effort required to provide a positive experience for club members, year in, year out.

Girard should know. He’s dedicated to keeping everyone happy at the eight-sheet curling facility he manages. And by the way, that “everyone” includes almost 1000 curlers of all ages, abilities and experience.- read full story

Congratulations Ralph MacLean - SPCC VOY

Volunteer of the Year - 2013 - 14

Ralph MacLean

Pictured below is Ralph receiving the honour from SPCC Prescient Michelle Lyster.

On Saturday March 29, 2014 just in front of Championship Day, the SPCC held it's annual volunteer of the year banquet for all of those members that go above and beyond. The group of 65 volunteers were treated to a lovely brunch as they anticipated the announcement of this years VOY recipient. Master of Ceremonies Sherry Ash did an outstanding job as she complimented the volunteers in attendance. She then turned the microphone over to Michelle who did the honours as she detailed some of Ralph's accomplishments over the past several years. In addition, to being on the board for more years than most of us can remember he served on the Executive for 3.5 years and was instrumental in several key accomplishments. Like co-chairing the VOY committee, sitting as President Elect, President and Past President, ice allocation director and was part of the SPCC/County contract negotiating team.

A well deserving representative and volunteer. Congrats Ralph you deserve it.

The physics of curling are actually really fascinating

They're also surprisingly counterintuitive. For instance: who here thinks that the sweepers' job is to increase or decrease the friction of the ice in front of the stone to make it curl? I definitely did. Turns out that's totally wrong. And it's still not even the weirdest thing about the physics of this sport.
